The Mitato of Amorgos is a Non-Profit Partnership founded in 2020, from our love for the natural and cultural environment of Amorgos and the Cyclades in general.
Our first project was the detection and recording of an old path, and we continued with further path maintenance and clearing works. From 11 to 15 October 2021, we held the first dry stone workshop on Amorgos “The Amorgian Craftsmanship”.
Our goal is to promote the cultural elements of the island of Amorgos, while highlighting the extent of their intrinsic connection with the natural environment and its conservation. Furthermore, we wish to engage the local community into our projects and ensure that these are beneficial on an economic, social and environmental level.
Our aim is to help the youth get in contact with the traditional crafts, record the local knowledge and transmit it from the older generations to the younger ones, adjusting it to contemporary needs so that its survival and meaningful continuation is ensured.
