Gender Mainstreaming in Project Design

This online seminar is addressed primarily to the grantee organisations of the “Protecting Democracy, Human Rights and the Rule of Law through an Open Civic Space” (PLATO) Programme in Greece and Cyprus, as well as to Civil Society Organisations more broadly.

How often have you designed a project without considering whether it affects women and men differently? This three-hour seminar is intended for Civil Society Organisations that want to change this, regardless of their size or previous experience with the topic.

The seminar goes beyond theory, using practical tools tailored to the realities of organisations that often operate with limited resources and staff. Participants will explore what gender mainstreaming really means, why it is not the same as explicitly targeting gender equality, how the gender dimension can be integrated into the design and communication of an activity, and what challenges may arise in practice.

The seminar is intended for staff members, volunteers, and project design professionals from NGOs and other Civil Society Organisations. No prior expertise on the subject is required.

The programme ‘Protecting democracy, human rights, and the rule of law through an open civic space’ (PLATO) aims to protect, promote and raise awareness of EU fundamental rights & values by supporting Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Greece & Cyprus active in these fields, by increasing their knowledge, capacity and sustainability. PLATO is co-funded by the European Union (90% funding rate), through the Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values programme* (CERV-2024-CITIZENS-VALUES), and by the Bodossaki Foundation and NGO Support Centre (10% funding rate), with the total grant amounting to €3.1 million. PLATO is coordinated by the Bodossaki Foundation (Greece) in consortium with the NGO Support Centre (Cyprus).
